Give Your Car Love That Lasts

February 1st, 2022 by

At Greenway Kia of Hickory Hollow, we’ve seen the difference between drivers who care for those cars and those who don’t. Taking a little time to give your vehicle from TLC ensures it runs well and lasts longer and can save you money in the long run by preventing more significant issues from arising. Even if you haven’t been able to keep up with car maintenance, starting now helps get the most from your car for the rest of its life, and we’re here to help customers with all their vehicle needs.

Change the Oil

Your car’s oil becomes filthy over time and use. It’s recommended that you change the oil every 3,0000 miles or six months, whichever comes first. For heavy drivers, the mileage may be the cue it’s time to break out the oil pan, while those who rack up fewer miles will find the calendar more useful. If you don’t do it yourself, scheduling these appointments ahead of time is a great way to ensure you never miss an oil change and find leaks before they become a big problem. Remember to check your oil levels between changes and top it off if your car is running low.

Rotate the Tires

Every 5,000 miles, you should rotate your car’s tires, so why not schedule tire rotation and an oil change at Greenway Kia of Hickory Hollow at the same time? Rotating your tires from front to back or side to side ensures more even wear and maximizes tire tread life, ultimately improving handling and traction. Plus, your warranty may require you to rotate your tires. We’re happy to rotate tires in the pattern that’s appropriate for your car.

Give It a Bath

Many people find a luxurious bath to be an essential element of self-TLC, so it’s no surprise the same is true for your car. You can go the old-fashioned route with a hose, bucket, and sponges, but car washes are more convenient. Plus, you can really pamper your vehicle with additional services such as a wax. Of course, washing your car isn’t all about appearances. If you ever drive in areas that get snow, you know how much damage salt can do to your car’s body and undercarriage. A wash prevents the chemical from staining and rusting your car.

Replace Brake Pads

Replacing brake pads is more than just TLC; it’s necessary for the safety of you and your family. As brake pads wear down, your car cannot break as easily, which becomes especially dangerous when road conditions are already slippery. Brake pads typically don’t need attention as often as tires or oil; check pads every 12,000 miles (and fluid every 25,000 miles). However, if your brakes make a grinding sound or become less effective, your pads may be wearing down, and it’s important to get them serviced as soon as possible.

Change the Air Filter

You’ll want to change the air filter at least annually, however, those who drive in dusty areas or on gravel roads should change air filters more frequently. A new air filter ensures no particles get into the engine and prevent your car from operating as smoothly as possible. Buying a new air filter is much more affordable than paying for the damage your engine can sustain from a dirty air one. Note that if your car uses a gauze air filter, it can be cleaned and replaced rather than installing a new air filter entirely.

Of course, not everyone has the time, knowledge, or tools to give their car all the TLC it needs. Fortunately, you don’t have to do it yourself. Whether you need detailing or a tuneup, we’ve got you covered. So what are you waiting for? Stop by Greenway Kia of Hickory Hollow to learn how you can give your car a little TLC. And feel free to check out our used cars while waiting. They make great gifts for loved ones!
