All About The 2021 Sportage

The Kia Sportage has always been a great-looking compact crossover with loads of tech and a robust warranty coverage. And it only gets better with the 2021 model year due to the availability of a pair of packages. This SUV is still available in LX, S, EX, and SX Turbo trim levels.

Under the hood of the 2021 Sportage is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 181 horsepower and is hitched to a six-speed automatic transmission. To get the Sportage from zero to 60 mph quicker, go with the top-of-the-line SX Turbo, which is powered by a leaner-but-meaner turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine for 237 horsepower if you go with the optional all-wheel drive (which maximizes performance on slippery surfaces) or 240 horsepower if you stick with the standard front-wheel drivetrain. Fuel efficiency peaks at 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway if you stick with the 2.4-liter four-cylinder and the front-wheel drivetrain. A five-seater, the Sportage has two cloth-trimmed rows of seats, and the rear includes a storage compartment under the cargo floor. If you go with the S—a notch above the LX—Kia replaces the urethane on the steering wheel with leather and the cloth seat trim with leatherette. Front-seat heating and driver-seat power adjustability appear at the EX trim level. Only the SX Turbo has leather seat trim, steering-wheel heating, and front-seat cooling. The latest Sportage has remote keyless entry, which enables you to unlock the doors by simply pressing the corresponding key fob button. For infotainment, the crossover uses an 8-inch touchscreen to integrate elements such as six speakers, an AM/FM radio tuner, Bluetooth technology hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, smartphone integration via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and Siri Eyes Free for virtual assistance. Also present are a USB port and an audio jack for hooking up portable devices and playing content from them. If you go as far up as the EX trim level, the remote keyless entry system is upgraded to proximity keyless entry for unlocking the doors by simply having the key fob on you, and a push button replaces the ignition for more convenient engine starting. In addition, the EX gains automatic climate controls at the front passenger side (in addition to the driver side) and a USB port in the rear for charging mobile devices. As the top-level trim, the SX Turbo gets a more fleshed-out infotainment system, with a voice-activated navigation system, trial subscriptions to SiriusXM Radio and SiriusXM Traffic, and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound system. In addition, the SX Turbo gets a pad for wirelessly charging mobile devices, and the rearview mirror gets auto-dimming ability and a garage-door opener. For driver assistance, this SUV bundles the following technologies:
• Driver attention warning to suggest that you take a break when inattentiveness or drowsiness is detected• Forward collision warning with pedestrian detection to alert you of an impending crash
• Lane keep assist to gently steer you back into your lane if you begin to drift out of it
• High beam assist for earlier detection of pedestrians or obstacles during low-visibility driving situations
However, if a crash occurs, the Kia Sportage can deploy any of its six airbags, which consist of dual frontal impact airbags, dual side impact airbags, and dual side curtain airbags. Other standard safety features on this vehicle include the following:
• Rearview camera
• Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes
• Electronic stability and traction control systems
• Hill start assist control
• LED daytime running lights
• Downhill brake control
If you go with the S, Kia adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic collision warning as additional driver-assistance technologies. Unique to the SX Turbo are adaptive cruise control for automatically adjusting the vehicle’s speed to maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead; and front and rear parking sensors to enhance the rearview camera’s functionality.

As eye-catching as the Sportage already is, you can still enhance it with the availability of the Nightfall Edition and Nightfall Edition Premium packages. Exclusive to the sporty S trim, these packages include black exterior accents, package-specific badging, and dark-finished 18-inch alloy wheels. Go with the Premium package for additional comfort-and-convenience features such as wireless device charging, heated front seats, adaptive cruise control, and a rear USB port.
