All About the 2021 Kia Forte

Although the trend has been to focus more on producing SUVs, Kia is not willing to let its compact sedan, the Kia Forte, go. Split into FE, LXS, GT-Line, EX, and GT trims, the Forte enters the 2021 model year with its attributes intact. It’s still a feature-laden, very fuel-efficient, attractive, and roomy ride to purchase and own.

The base engine on the 2021 Forte is a 147-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which is pinned to a six-speed manual transmission on the FE and a smoother-operating continuously variable transmission on the LXS, GT-Line, and EX. For better acceleration, go with the GT, which is powered by a 201-horsepower 1.6-liter turbo-four that can be either hitched to the six-speed gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The Forte is a highly efficient vehicle, with numbers of up to 31 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway if you go with the FE. A five-seater, the 2021 Forte, at the base level, presents two rows of woven cloth-trimmed seats. The trunk space, at 15.3 cubic feet, is one of the largest cargo holds in the compact car class. Move up to the LXS to gain the ability to fold down the rear seats, thereby maximizing cargo space. The racing-oriented GT-Line gets a sports-style leather-wrapped steering wheel and synthetic leather-and-cloth seat trim with white stitching. The luxury-oriented EX stands out with its 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, synthetic leather seat trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heated and ventilated front seats. The top-of-the-line GT brings back the sports-style leather-wrapped steering wheel and synthetic leather-and-cloth seat trim—albeit with red stitching instead of white stitching. For infotainment, the Forte gets the following:
• Four speakers
• AM/FM radio
• Bluetooth hands-free phone calling and audio streaming
• Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration
• USB port and audio jack for playing content from mobile devices
At the GT-Line trim level, the Forte’s manufacturer upgrades the standard remote keyless entry system (for secure access by pressing a key fob button) with a smart key system (for secure access by simply having the key fob on you) and a push button for starting the engine without an ignition key. In addition, the GT-Line gains two additions speakers for a total of six speakers. The EX gets two USB ports solely for charging mobile devices, and it stands out with the following enhancements:
• Dual-zone automatic climate control (controls are added on the front passenger side)
• Wireless phone charger
• Navigation system
• UVO link for remote connectivity
• Trial subscription to SiriusXM Traffic
• HD Radio technology
• Eight-speaker 320-watt Harman Kardon premium audio system
The GT gains a trial subscription to SiriusXM Radio, and it has voice recognition. If the GT has the manual gearbox (GT Manual), Kia reintroduces the wireless phone charger. For driver assistance, the Forte provides the following:
• Rearview camera for parking guidance with a video image when moving in reverse
• Cruise control for manually setting a safe following distance
• Forward collision warning to detect a potential front-end collision and provide audible warnings and visual signals on the meter display
• Forward collision avoidance assist for applying the brakes to help prevent or lessen the effects of a frontal collision
• Lane departure warning to warn you if you deviate from the intended lane of travel without activating the turn signal
• Lane keeping assist to apply corrective steering back into the intended lane of travel if necessary
• Driver attention warning to detect drowsiness or road fatigue and consequently suggest taking a break
For restraint and cushioning, the Forte can deploy any of its six airbags. If you upgrade to the GT-Line, the Forte gains additional driver-assistance features, which are the following:
• Blind-spot collision warning to reduce the blind sports on the side and rear areas of the vehicle
• Lane change assist to detect and warn you if vehicles are approaching from behind
• Rear cross-traffic collision warning to watch out for anything and anyone crossing the path behind you when moving in reverse
The GT Manual version of the Forte gets the additional reverse parking distance warning system.
